Fishing
Coarse Fishing
The Lakes of Mawgan Porth
Pools are on the edge of the Sun Haven Valley Park
and offer both a "specimen" lake and a larger well-stocked
lake (1.5 acre) with 46 pegs to fish for mirror
& common carp, tench & bream. Catches of 100lbs
+ have been recorded by holidaymakers at Sun Haven
Valley and regular competitions are held.
If you are
looking for a variety of fisheries during your stay,
we are within a few miles of Meadowside
fisheries
and Porth
Lakes. which is part of the South West Lakes Trust
The South West Lakes Trust organisation have a dozen or so lakes around Cornwall from Siblyback & Colliford trout lakes up on Bomin Moor down to the coarse fishing on Argal Lake at Penryn.
For commercially stocked trout lakes, the Temple lakes, high on Bodmin Moor (easily accessible by car and some 30 minutes drive away) are two lakes of 2.7 and 4.5 acres on a sheltered site. In peaty water, with depths between 11 and 20 feet, one is an "any method" lake & the other "fly only".
Trout Fishing
For 'natural' trout - we
are within reach of Stithians
lake - probably Englands most westerley large
trout fishery, and in the other direction Crowdy
Lake near Camelford offers trout fishing to fly,
spinner or bait.
Salmon & Sea Trout
The easiest access to these is through the West Counttry Angling Passport which sells day tickets to a selection of river fishing, booked in advance in the relevant fishing seasons.
Beach Fishing
We are of course only 15 minutes walk from mawgan Porth beach and experienced anglers tell me that Bass can be caught off the headlands.
Sea Fishing - Mackerel , Shark Fishing, Deep sea and Wreck Fishing
There are a variety of boats for day trips
at both Padstow & Newquay with Padstow probably the more popular - but this more crowded venue is more subject to tides. Judging by the number of happy young faces presenting us with freshly caught fish this year we would say that the mackerel fishing has been excellent in 2011.
